The Legacy football program won the state title in 2023. In 2024, it lost just two games.

But in 2025, the team won only two games.

That didn’t sit well with the players and coaches, and they took those frustrations out on visiting Silverado Friday night, opening the season with a 57-16 win.

“We were a little motivated,” coach Zach Monticelli said. “Last year, we were all young. We played a lot of sophomores. We took the offseason serious. We were committed to each other.”

Cameron Turner thrived, rushing for 150 yards and four touchdowns while adding two sacks on defense.

Kyree Perkins scored on a kickoff return and a long touchdown reception, and quarterback Jaelynn Love-Carter threw for two scores — one to Jai’Den Swanson, who also scored on an interception return.

The Longhorns face Palo Verde next week. Palo Verde also won Friday, beating Desert Pines.
