Shadow Ridge High School senior Jaylani Palmer has been selected to compete in the NFL FLAG Girls High School Showcase at the Pro Bowl Games on Tuesday in San Francisco in the days leading up to the Super Bowl.
Palmer is one of 32 elite high school girls flag football players chosen from across the country to participate in the exhibition. The NFL, with support from NFL clubs and USA TODAY, selected the players.
The standout defensive back and wide receiver has dominated on both sides of the ball this season. Through 17 games, Palmer has caught 64 passes for 1,359 yards and 22 touchdowns while adding 1,050 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. Defensively, she has recorded 18 interceptions.
She compiled 112 receptions for 1,947 yards and 36 touchdowns across 23 games during her junior year. Shadow Ridge is one the city’s top teams.
“The selection committee reviewed an impressive number of highly qualified athletes submitted by Clubs,” the NFL said in an email statement. “The tremendous growth of girls’ high school flag football nationwide, combined with the addition of piloting states this year, expanded the candidate pool significantly. As a result, the selection process was extremely competitive, and not every Club’s nomination could be chosen.”
This is the second year of a prep girls flag exhibition being part of the Pro Bowl Games. The game will be televised by ESPN.
