Bishop Gorman quarterback Maika Eugenio delivered a commanding performance in the Open Division semifinals, completing 14 of 18 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns as the Gaels routed Foothill 56-6 on Friday night.

The defending state champions advance to face Arbor View in the state championship game Nov. 25 at Allegiant Stadium.

Massiah Mingo had a rushing and receiving touchdown, while Kaina Watson, Isaiah Nickels and Zyren Menor each added receiving scores. Jacob Fotu added a rushing touchdown.

Despite trailing just 8-6 in the second quarter, Gorman overwhelmed Foothill with 48 unanswered points to close out the game. But the Falcons — widely viewed as underdogs against the powerhouse Gaels — earned respect with their gritty first-half performance.

“They had a good game plan and executed it,” Gorman coach Brent Browner said of Foothill. “Their kids came to compete. A ton of respect for those guys and how they handled themselves.”

Browner also praised Foothill for bringing more than 100 band members to create a fun playoff atmosphere. “Hats off to that school,” he said.

Browner praised his team’s preparation during the two-week layoff from the end of the regular season to the start of the playoffs, saying they “prepared for Foothill like we were playing Mater Dei.” Gorman narrowly lost to Mater Dei early this season in a battle of two of the nation’s top programs.

They will start the preparation Saturday for a rematch against Arbor View. Gorman beat Arbor View for last season’s title.

“The kids love playing at Allegiant Stadium,” Browner said. “We are lucky and blessed for the Raiders and Mr. Davis to give us this opportunity.”
