Officiating seminar set this week as lacrosse to launch for Southern Nevada schools – Las Vegas Sun News

The Las Vegas Desert Dogs are hosting an officiating clinic at 6 p.m. Thursday at Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson for anyone interested in working high school lacrosse games.

Boys’ and girls’ lacrosse will be sanctioned across the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association starting in the spring.

A high school lacrosse match requires a minimum of two officials, though three — a referee, umpire and field judge — is the standard recommendation.

“YOU can help grow lacrosse in Las Vegas,” the franchise posted on social media.

The sport has existed locally at the prep level for nearly 20 years as a nonsanctioned activity, and a handful of schools already have programs.

Nationally, there are 216,000 prep lacrosse players — 115,000 boys and 101,000 girls — according to the National Federation of State High School Associations.

The training will cover the fundamentals of the game, including rules and mechanics for face-offs, as well as basic game administration and officiating standards, officials said.
