Mentors provide young people with positive role models, helping them develop healthy habits, self-confidence, and a vision for their future.
A mentor offers a safe space for students to express themselves, which builds emotional resilience and reduces feelings of isolation or stress.
Mentors motivate students to stay engaged in their education, leading to better school attendance, improved grades, and a higher likelihood of graduation.
Through regular interactions, mentors help youth develop critical life skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and goal-setting, which are essential for success in adulthood.

Three J Youth is a dynamic grassroots nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk students across Nevada through the power of mentorship. Founded by Trey’von “Trey” Jackson, a passionate advocate for youth development, our mission is to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to succeed. Our youth mentoring programs are designed to build those chances by forging strong, supportive relationships that empower students to envision and achieve a brighter future.
Research shows that youth with mentors are:
Our approach is rooted in collaboration, forming strategic partnerships with Nevada school districts, group homes, the juvenile court system, and other community organizations aligned with our mission. By working together, we aim to create a network of support that reaches deep into our communities, providing a safety net for students who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
The heart of Three J Youth lies in fostering meaningful, long-term connections between mentors and mentees. Our primary goal is to cultivate pro-social friendships, enhance interpersonal skills, and instill a renewed sense of hope in our youth. We know that real change happens through relationships—when a young person feels seen, heard, and valued, they begin to take responsibility for their future with a newfound sense of confidence and determination.
Our mentoring programs directly address the challenges faced by young people who struggle academically or who are already involved with the juvenile justice system. We focus on students in grades K-12, with a particular emphasis on middle schoolers, as this is a critical time for intervention. By catching students at this pivotal stage, we can help them navigate the often-turbulent transition to adulthood, avoiding the pitfalls that can derail their lives.
Over a nine-month period, each mentor-mentee pair participates in weekly engagements and monthly planned activities, creating a strong, supportive bond that helps students build confidence and hopefulness. Mentors receive continuous training and participate in monthly progress meetings to ensure the success of the program.
Parents have praised the program for its positive impact on their children. One parent shared, “Since joining Three J Youth, my child’s confidence has soared. The mentorship has provided a sense of stability and encouragement that was missing before.”
Trey Jackson’s dedication and vision have been instrumental in the success of Three J Youth. His hands-on approach and commitment to each student’s well-being have earned him the respect and admiration of both parents and community leaders. “Trey’s passion for helping youth is evident in everything he does. He has created a program that truly makes a difference,” said another parent.
As we continue to grow, Three J Youth is committed to creating a proactive, vibrant environment that will serve as a valuable resource not only for young people but also for aspiring mentors and the community at large. Join us in making a lasting impact—together, we can empower Nevada’s youth to reach their full potential.
